Today while at the jail completing an evaluation my client had a seizure. This was a bit shocking to me because it was the first time anything like this has ever happened to me. As I look back on it so much of it is still very surreal and I keep asking myself did this really happen? WHAT A MOMENT
As I walked back to my car after leaving the jail I saw a woman jump from a car and take off running. She did not even really give the car time to stop and I was wondering “why is she running?” It’s amazing how fast negative thoughts can go through your mind especially with the state of the world today. So as I continue to watch and see where she was going, I noticed that she ran into the arms of her son who had just been released from jail. As she made contact with him she kissed him on the cheek. For about 30 seconds all they did was hold each other real tight and I noticed the tears running down his face. Before I knew I had said out loud ‘WHAT A MOMENT’.
I really wished that I could have capture this MOMENT on video. It was so powerful. I was so excited about the MOMENT I had to call someone and I ended up talking to my son. He said it reminded him of the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32) and how the father ran to the lost son when he returned. Ready and willing to give a second chance. The expression of unconditional love that was capture at that MOMENT is so very powerful because that is the kind of love God has for all of us.
It would be so nice if we could bottle up those MOMENTS and put them on a shelf and from time to time revisit them and remember that we all deserve LOVE, COMPASSION, AND SECOND CHANCES.
